Hardware Engineer - Vehicle Protection Systems

Location:
Hybrid - Serve in a customer-facing role to assist the office of the Product Manager for Vehicle Protection Systems (PdM VPS) with their development and production of passive and reactive armor systems for military ground vehicles.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide subject matter engineering technical expertise to passive and reactive armor Programs of Record (PORs).
Perform research, development, and engineering activities related to components, systems, test beds, and technology demonstrators for PORs.
Responsible for the technical activities involved with the design, development, production and systems integration, including oversight of technical reviews and artifacts.
Perform reviews of technical data packages (TDPs) in order to coordinate and finalize the TDPs for production.
Interface with platform PM Offices in order to understand their needs and provide armor solutions to meet their needs.
Participate in efforts to create Statements of Work (SOWs) and award contracts for development and production of armor systems.
Work with contractors to ensure performance fulfills contract requirements and satisfies the needs of PdM VPS.
Coordinate cross-functionally with others within the PdM office to synchronize schedules and funding required to develop and produce armor systems.
Participate in testing and review of testing results and work to develop design changes to remedy shortcomings found through testing.
Participate in and lead vehicle fit checks and determine design changes necessary to remedy shortcomings found through fit checks.
Ensure understanding of the customer needs and implement strategies to provide optimal support to the customer.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.
S.
citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and at least six years of engineering experience.
Able to perform tasks independently based on initial guidance.
Ability to converse and understand technical matters and also to be able to communicate technical matters to non-technical leadership.
Professional written and verbal communications skills.
Professional demeanor, etiquette and personal presentation suited for a customer-facing role.
Able to take leadership over tasks and exercise a healthy assertiveness as needed.
Knowledgeable about armor systems and current trends in the development of armor systems.
Experience with hardware design, TDP development, and supporting production efforts.
Experience with formal configuration management processes and systems.
General knowledge of Army ground vehicle platforms.
Desired Skills:
Experience working within a Department of Defense program office.
Familiarity with DoD contracts and contract deliverables.
An understanding of DoD requirements documents that govern materiel development and acquisition.
